Oregon State? Damn Straight

Welcome, my friends of Beaver Nation, to a blog made for you. Yes, you, the people that actually believe in Oregon State Athletics a lot more than the blowhards of paysites (that charge you for recruiting news you can get if you simply asked a friend that follows people on twitter or on hudl) and especially a few "journalists" who would rather discuss how Corvallis is some sort of dead end recruiting stop than a place an athlete would be proud to represent.

Oregon State University is a GREAT place to get an education. It also has a loyal fan base in all sports that love to see its teams do well. However, a counter-narrative spun by members of a media that lacks journalistic backbone (mostly from the Oregonian) looked like propaganda designed by someone who perpetrates domestic abuse, especially on the behalf of Mike Riley. The narrative is that Corvallis and the University have so little to offer that mediocrity is something to be settled for. A few winning seasons every five years is acceptable.  You can't recruit to Oregon State. Blah blah blah.

The worst part about it was that Oregon State athletes didn't receive any assurances or exceptional hires to guide them. We had an abusive women's basketball coach, a splashy politically charged hire with men's basketball, and a lifetime contract offered to "Saint" Mike Riley.

There's volumes of books that could catalog the blunders of these people, but for the sake of this blog I'll stick to three goals.

1) Attacking the Narrative spun by numerous faulty sportswriters. Oregon State and its fans deserve better than their constant barrage of negativity.
2) Be objective about what is REALLY happening with our sports programs (Football will be predominant as its my favorite but I hope to bring attention to other programs)
3) Serve as a counter to "pay sites" like Beaverblitz, who would rob people of their money for information they can find for free- which will generally result in as many recruiting updates as I can muster by myself.

I would be remiss not to mention my support of the blogger, "Angry" of angrybeavs.com. On many occasions he was a lone voice of discontent with the mediocrity we were force fed and finally, with a brand new slate of coaches in the major money-draw sports, has been vindicated of those that labeled him as malcontent (for the crime of wanting hard-nosed, tough, and fundamentally sound athletes). Thank you, Angry, for your contributions to Oregon State Athletics. Without you or the fans of your blog there wouldn't have been many people actually pointing out the flaws with the way Bob DeCarolis was running the show up to the last two years and for that you deserve to be commended.

I now smash the proverbial bottle of bubbly on this ship, and christen it the USS OS? DS!
